At Okanagan e-Waste Management (OKeWaste), we focus on two core services along with local in-person secure pickup,
01. Data Sanitization
Unlike simple deletion or formatting, proper data sanitization eliminates the risk of data recovery using currently known techniques, helping organizations protect sensitive information, meet regulatory obligations, and reduce exposure to data breaches when devices reach end of life.
Data Sanitization Certificate produced in compliance with NIST SP 800-88 standard.
02. End-of-life IT Asset Management
During electronic waste (e-waste) recycling, we carefully separate and responsibly recycle all materials for recovery and reuse, in full compliance with applicable environmental regulations.
Who These Services Are For
Our services are suited for any organization that:
- Handles customer or personal data
- Stores confidential or regulated information
- Uses computers, servers, laptops, mobile devices or storage devices
- Wants to reduce data breach risk at end of life
- Values compliance, accountability, and environmental responsibility
From small businesses to regulated industries, the principles remain the same: secure the data first, then manage the hardware responsibly.
A Security-First Partner
OKeWaste is not a general recycler. We are a risk-focused partner for organizations that take data protection seriously.
By combining recognized standards, documented processes, and responsible recycling practices, we help organizations protect what matters most—long after the device is powered down.

Data Sanitization
Data sanitization is the most critical—and most misunderstood—step in end-of-life IT asset management.
Deleting files, formatting drives, or resetting devices does not reliably remove data. Sensitive information can often be recovered long after equipment leaves active use, creating exposure to data breaches, regulatory penalties, and reputational harm.
OKeWaste provides professional data sanitization services aligned with NIST SP 800-88 Revision 1, the internationally recognized guideline for media sanitization. Why Data Sanitization Matters
Organizations remain accountable for their data regardless of where the hardware goes. If information is recovered from improperly handled devices, responsibility remains with the original data owner.
Effective data sanitization:
- Protects customer, employee, and business information
- Reduces the risk of unauthorized access or data recovery
- Supports compliance with privacy and data protection regulations
- Demonstrates due diligence to auditors, insurers, and regulators
Our Approach
OKeWaste data sanitization services are designed around outcomes and verification, not shortcuts.
- Data-bearing devices are identified, logged, and controlled
- Sanitization methods are selected based on media type and use case
- Processing follows documented procedures aligned with recognized standards
- Completion is verified before devices move to the next stage
End-of-life IT Asset Management
Once data risks have been properly addressed, at OKeWaste, we manage all electronic equipment with the same level of care and accountability.
Improper handling of electronic waste can lead to environmental harm, regulatory exposure, and reputational risk. Today, organizations are expected to demonstrate environmental responsibility alongside strong data protection practices.
OKeWaste provides electronic waste and IT asset management services that integrate security-first principles with environmentally responsible outcomes.Responsible End-of-Life Handling
Our electronic waste services are designed to ensure that security is never compromised while maximizing responsible material recovery:
- Data-bearing devices are never reused, resold, or refurbished. All such equipment is securely sanitized or physically destroyed prior to material recovery
- Once data is rendered permanently inaccessible, remaining materials are responsibly recycled through approved downstream partners to recover metals and reusable resources
- Eligible non-data-bearing equipment may be recycled or upcycled where appropriate
- Materials unsuitable for reuse are processed in accordance with applicable environmental regulations
Environmental responsibility is treated as a continuation of data security—not a separate concern.
Local Pickup & Controlled Handling
To reduce risk and cost, OKeWaste offers secure, logged local pickup services. This eliminates the need for organizations to ship sensitive equipment off-site, reducing exposure during transport and maintaining a documented chain of custody.
